Four China Merchants steamers were sent up to

Tientsin for troops and they are due at Bhanghai this week

(1-7/11/15). The native papers give the number of troops as 500 Infantry and 300 Engineers, and it is probable that they will be drafted up the Yangtze. One regiment which was

stationed at the Arsenal was transferred to Peking under the impression it was to take a place of honour in the

Presidential Army but instead it was disbanded.

Several of

the officers and men are supposed to have returned here

(Shanghai).
