ILLEDIATE
146
MINISTRY OF MUNITIONS OF WAR,
6, Whitehall Garde
LONDON, S.V.
୮
17576
REG 13 APR 16
9th March, 1916.
Sir,
I am directed by the Minister of Munitions to state, for the information of the Board of Trade, that there is a
great scarcity of manufactured lead in this country for
the purposes of the supply of munitions of war, but that it
appears that considerable quantities of pig lead have been
shipped to Hong Kong for eventual re-export to China.
I am to say that, while no objection would be offered
to its export under licence to British Colonies to meet their
legitimate requirements, the Minister considers it imperative
that this country's resources should be more carefully husbanded.
I am accordingly to enquire whether the Board will con-
sider the advisability of transferring pig lead, which is now
included in the item appearing in List B. of restricted exports
as "lead, pig, sheet or pipe (including solder containing lead)",
to List A. of goods, the export of which is prohibited to all
destinations.
The Assistant Secretary,
Board of Trade,
7, Whitehall Gardens, S.W.
I am, Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
(Sgd.) EDMUND PHIPPS.
