Sir,
I am directed by the Secretary of State for
India to refer to the despatch of H..'s Minister at Berne, No.209 Treaty, dated 26th August last, of which copy has
been communicated by the Foreign Office to your Department regarding the proposed journey to India in October of
Dr. de Benoit, medical missionary, Swiss, with his wife,
via Shanghai, Hong Kong and Singapore.
The Secretary of State understands that the
Colonial Office have some knowledge of Dr. de Benoit and
he would be glad to learn whether from their standpoint they would view the proposed journey favourably.
The favour is requested of an early reply as the
Foreign Office are pressing this Department for an answer.
