FOREIGN OFFICE
August 18th 1916
Sir:-
Govt.
With reference to your letter 32771/1916 of the
14th ultimo and previous correspondence in regard
to the Shanghai Registry of Companies I am directed by
Viscount Grey of Fallodon to transmit to you for the
information of Mr. Secretary Bonar Law a copy of a
telegram received in this Department from His Majesty's
Consul General in Shanghai in which he states that he
has not received funds for the salaries for the six
months ended June 30th last of the Crown Advocate
and Deputy Registrar from the Government of Hongkong or
any reply to two applications for the amount, and asks
leave to draw a bill on the Foreign Office to meet
this expenditure. I am to suggest that, should Mr. Bonar
Law see no objection, immediate representations may be
made by telegram authorising the Goverment of Hongkong
to remit the amount due forthwith to Sir E. Fraser, as
the salaries in question are not borne on the Votes
administered by this Department.
I am to request that this office may be duly
informed of the result of such representations.
I
sir,
am,
Your most obedient,
humble Servant,
Mamice de Nunsen
Under Secretary of State,
Colonial office.
