I have the honour to acknowledge the receips of your despatch 0.403 Commercial (136°16/15) of october ìcu tromitting copies of correspondence with the firm of
itsui and Company relative to a certain suipment of tin ex w/s "Walton ..all" destined for the American Metal Company and referring to an advertisement inserted in trade papers in the United States to the effect twat twe 1:ew York branch of itsul and Company had for sale Japanese and Chinese ntimony "wiwout my restrictions

Lis Majesty's Consul General at new fork who sou,ut an explanation of this advertisement reports as follows
under date of the 11th instant:-
"1 nave had endless difficulty in inuucing wis fim to reply to my enquiries.......hey disclaim the ro- sponsibility for the insertion of the advertisement which was put in by the chief vlerk of their Betal Department without authority; that the advertisement was withdrawn as soon as their attention was called to it, and what the person who was responsible is now employed at their

They have offered to produce to me atatement covering all their sales to neutral uropean countries
