Dear Beckett,

Your letter of the 20th January (2833/16) encloses a letter from the Crown Agents in which it is proposed that the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank should be allowed to deposit £25,000 India 24 per cent Stock in exchange for £15,400 East India Railway 4 per cent Debenture Stock. This latter Stock is stated in the Crown Agent's letter to be held by the Bank as part of their security for the note issue in Hong Kong. Our latest information, however, as to the securities held by the H.K. and S. Bank is the enclosure to your letter of the 22nd March 1915 (9069/15) and the list enclosed with that letter makes no mention of East India Railway Debenture Stock.

I cannot find that we have received any later inform- ation from you or from any other source as to the Bank's securities. Will you kindly let me know if they have changed them since March 1915 and if so why they did not

consult us.

H. Beckett Esq.,

Yours very truly,

Jr Nixon
