REC? Reo 16

Admiralty,

November 1916.

In reply to your communication of the 14th September last, No 43584, I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to acquaint you for the information of Mr. Secretary Bonar Law that the rate of full pay of a Commander, Royal Navy, is still

228/- a day.

In addition to his full pay Commander B.R.H. Taylour receives an allowance of 38/- a day in re- spect of his duties as a Transport Officer.

Until March last it was the practice to pay

Civil Servants holding commissioned rank in the Royal Navy during the War the difference between their Civil Salaries and their Naval Pay (exclusive of allowances) but the Treasury then ruled that, in future, allowances other than those of a compensa- tory nature e.g., Lodging and Provision Allowances, should also be deducted from civil salaries.

-

It was on the assumption that the same pro- - cedure would be applied to Officers of the Colonial Service that the particulars as to allowances were communicated in Admiralty letter of 21st August last, No.11 E.2844/14265, to the Crown Agents.
