Pio in the Pacific.

As we are informed here, the Pacific Mail Steamship

Co., which came to an end last year, has been revived in the

form of the American International Corporation.

The firm of W.R. Grace and 00., San Francisco, has

been in the highest degree interested in the organisation of

the line. The American, Stewart Elliott, who is at present

at Shanghai in the interests of the Company, amounces that at

first three ships will be run by the Line under the American

Flag.

These consist of the "EQUADOR", *COLOMBIA" and "VENE-

ZUELA' which are already on their way from the Atlantio to San

Francis00. The three steamers are sister ships and are report-

ed to be most luxuriously fitted up for the accomodation of pass- engers. The time-table of the Company is the same as that of

San Francisco-Honolulu- the Pacific Mail Steamship Co., that is Yokohama-Kobe-Shanghai-Manila-Hong Kong-Shangha-Kobe-Yokohama- Honolulu-San Francisco. The ships can carry freight up to a

total of 5,000 tons.

It is to be hoped that the American Flag, which these ships will carry, will really defend them from the setion of

neutral flags the British Authorities : if it does not do so,

will.
