to the Governor but was refused. I now beg to request that my wife
be allowed to draw at least half my pay during such time as I am
on active service. Out of the half pay she will have to contribute
to the Widows and Orphans Fund and also keep up an Insurance Polioj

In conclusion I beg to add that I have been in the service of the
Hongkong Government for twelve years during which time my work
has always been up to date and has been spoken of most highly by
all the Heads of the Sanitary Department even Er. Tratman who dis-
likes me wrote a long minute to Government on the subject of my
work and Mr. Wolfe when he was Head of my Department also wrote in
recommending me in the strongest terme for an increase of salary.
