GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

HONGKONG. 28th. December, 1916.

I have the honour to report that on the 17th.

December Lieutenant-General Hon Pan Lai came to see me bearing a letter copy of which is enclosed, from the Chinese Premier Tuan Chi -jui (in Cantonese Tun Ki Sui) and some presents as enumerated in the letter. As it would have been difficult to refuse these pre- -sents without giving offence and as they are of little commercial value I accepted them and with your permission would propose to keep the table cover and the pictures, which are not worth more than a few shillings, myself and to place the cloisonne articles, which though decorative are purely modern, on the Inventory of Government House furniture.

On the 22nd. December I addressed a letter

copy of which I enclose, to the Premier and sent him a watch-clock

in return.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient,

humble servant,

Annay

Governor,&c..

RIGHT HONOURABLE
