GOVERNMENT HOUSE.

HONGKONG. 8th. December, 1916.

With reference to my telegram of the 6th. Decem

-ber, I have the honour to report as follows on the progress of the liquidations of the German and Austrian firms.

Australia and China.

In certain cases there are some disputes to be settled and some final adjustments to be made. For example, in tw cases there are disputes with the compradores, in another case an action is proceeding, and in another case there is a claim by a

dealer which may result in action or in arbitration. This latter claim is connected with some sheltering cargo which the liquidators

hoped to be able to bring forward but which the Shanghai branch of

the firm mmeged to obtain possession of recently.

4.

It is hoped that the question of the leases of the offices will be settled soon by mutual arrangement. Most of the leases have been settled in that way already. In three cases it is

proposed that the existing leases should be allowed to run their

course. These leases will expire on the 30th. April, 31st. July

and 30th. September, 1917, respectively. In all three cases there
