P.S.

It may be convenient to enumerate the present

Nursing Staff.

There are 6 vacancies for Sisters and 3 Sisters

are on long leave to England and Canada. This leaves 5 Sisters

in the Colony for duty.

2 Temporary Sisters and

2 Temporary European Maternity urges have been

engaged;

5 Temporary Japanese Staff Nurses and

1 Temporary Chinese Turse (trained for one year

in England), ere employed;

3 Probationers one shown under the Maternity

Hospital as a Nurse

-

and

6 Chinese Dressers are on the Staff.

3 Japanese Staff Nurses (provided for in

Estimates for next year) are expected towards the end of the current month while 4 appoint-

-ments an Sisters have been offered to ladies

in India and else here.

The Staff has been increased by the addition

of Japanese Staff Nurses. On the other hand I have made the

rule that Sisters must in future be granted their long leeve

et the expiration of each 4 years of service and that in addition the Nursing Staff are to be granted deys off in each month and short local leave not exceeding 1 month annually as may be considered desirable.

These concessions absorb a considerable number

of the Nursing Staff.

I propose on my return from the short leave which I am about to take to revier the whole question of the numbers of the Nursing Staff at the Government Hospitals.
