Hon. Colonial Secretary,

In last week's gazette tin-pletes have been removed from List © to List B of prohibited articles. This mane that they oɛnot be exported to any but British Posemesions without special permission.

There

is a very considerable trede in tiz-plates to Chins, Japan and Java. Sall lots go elsewhere. The origir of practically all tin-plates now passing through the Colony is American,

2.

I do not think this ie intended as e totel prohibition and suggest that tin-plates be allowed to River ports in Chins without restriction, to other Chine porte and Japan under guarentes to produce a Consuler landing certificate. Shipments to Java are generally in large quantities and in this case the goods might be consigned to the British Consul.

Superintendent of Imports

and Experts.
