In continuation of my Despatch No. 145 of the

14th of April, I have the honour to transmit for your inform-

-ation the enclosed copy of correspondence with the Government

of India concerning the nominal consignment of 170 chests of

Benares opium to Mexico.

The 132 chests of spurious opium referred to

in the 4th paragraph of the Colonial Secretary's letter of the 22nd September, 1916, are the 132 cases referred to in my

4dd75 Confidential Despatch of the 26th of July. I enclose further

correspondence with the Commissioner of the Chinese Maritime

Customs at Macao concerning this shipment, together with a

oopy of a letter which I have addressed to the Governor of

Macao on the subject of the prohibition of the import of opium

into Mexico.
