Kowloon...
2. The area required in the New Territories,-about an sore, - is so small that it may be neglected.
3. In arriving at the foregoing figures, I have assumed that, for the first two classes of officers enumerated in the list, half an more should be allowed for each residence; for the third class, quarter of an sore and for the fourth and fifth classes one-sixth of an kore.
4. I enclose two plans (in duplicate),- one of Hongkong and one of Kowloon,- showing approximately the positions in which the areas required are obtainable.
5. In the case of the Hill District area (9) acres), many of the houses would be badly exposed to the afternoon sun. The area is between 800 & 900 feet aboVD BEE-løvel and is about a mile distant from the Upper Terminus of the Peak Tramway. In order to reach it, a new road would have to be constructed at cost of about $40,000. The road would have a falling gredient of about 1 in 7 from near the Traïwey Terminus to the area. Such e gradient would be a great drawback, as officers would have a steep road to negotiate in order to reach the Tramway and, unless they kept chairs, which are nowadays very expensive, the walk would be a very trying one during the hot months. There is no other ares available in the Hill Distriot, of equal extert, which
