GOVERNMENT HOUSE.

Sir,
I have the honour to transmit for your consider- -ation the enclosed copy of a letter from the widowed mother of the late P.C. Herbert George Wakeford, who volunteered for active service with His Majesty's Army as reported in my despatch No.257 of the 17th July, 1915, and who has apparently been killed in
action.
2.
I shall be glad if you will inform me whether sufficient provision is made from Imperial Funds supplemented perhaps by Charitable funds, such as the Prince of Wales fund to which this Colony has subscribed largely, for such cases as this; or whether you desire the Colonial Government to bring such cases to the notice of the Committee which administers the locally subscribed War Charities Fund for additional assistance.
3.
If additional assistance from the local fund is desired I shall be obliged if I can be furnished with the result of official enquiries into the circumstances of Mrs. Rose Smith together with verification of her relationship to the deceased and a statement of the amount of the pension, if any, from Imperial funds or from other sources which may be accorded to her, &
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient, humble servant,
Bina
Governor,&e..
