appointment in the Hongkong Colonial Service, I am willing to re-instate him at the end of the war in the post which he for- -merly held and to allow his pensionable service to date from the date of his original engagement under this Government. But I am unwilling to continue any allowance to him from the Colonial funds between the date of his resignation from the Colonial Service in February last and the date upon which he may ultimately embark to return to take up his appointment under
this Government.

If you concur in my proposals I shall be obliged if you will cause Mr. Miller to be informed accordingly. If on the other hand you desire to show Mr. Miller greater in- -dulgence I am of course ready to carry out your wishes.
