Mr. Schmulling admitted that he had received the documents from a Mr. Dantbendey in Java and that he had under- taken to forward them to Germany as they could not reach that

country by post.

Hr. Dantbendey had been engaged on the expeditions to which the reports refer and had been surprised by the war and unable to return to Germany.

I understand that the Captain Superintendent of

Police informed the General Staff Officer on the 13th instant of

the action taken in this matter. I have instructed him to make

earlier report to the Military Authorities in any similar case

in the future.

6.

Due

I have no objection to the telegram which accom-

panied Your Excellency's letter being forwarded.
