I have the honour to inform you that yesterday #t
21
8 ▲.. a gang of about 60 armed robbers displaced the rails
Kile 20 and wrecked the 7.25 express train frem Canten to
Kowloon and then presseded to relieve the passengers of all their
valuables.
I regret to say that two men, one of then an american
subject, were killed and four very dangerously injured. Of these
latter, smp of whem received a gun-shot wound, some are not
expected to recover and there were nearly one hundred osses of
severe and slight injuries.
The two front coaches of the train vors very badly
telescoped, the two most derailed but did not fall over and
verg not seriously damaged while the guard's van at the rear
of the train kept the rails.
The damage done to track and relling stock amounte
$6,000.
te about $5,000.
The track has been diverted and was re-opened to
traffic for the first train this morning but I fear that it will
bp a long time before confidence is restored and passengers
will take the risk of travelling on the Railway, particularly
if the Authorities or santon take their usual precedure in
dpaling with the armed robber organizations.
There is little doubt that this sutrage was the work
of the sang gang which wracked the night train a few years ago,
