I have the honour to inform you that I visited the

soạng of the above derailment with Mr. Meokichan on Friday last.

The derailment, which scourred at the entrance of a

Cutting between Sun Tong and Hamkong, 20 miles from Ganten, was

caused by the removal of a fish plate and the displacement of ti

sutside rail of the curve. This in ordinary course of svants

would have been noticed by the patrol and adjusted before the

arrival of the first train, but the rebbers, aware of this fact,

took the patrol prischer before he reached the point. He was

taken belind the Sutting where the robbers vera oenosaled, but

endeavoured as the train came in sight to warn the driver and

was then knocked down by the butt end of a rifle.

The engine leaving the rails dived into the side of the

sutting, the two frent coaches, beth Brd. class, also left the

rails and vera telescoped. The two fellowing coaches, I am

informed, although derailed did not fall over and the guarda Van

renatasd on the line.

Two persons were actually killed in the accident, though

others have since dipd. of the twe killed, one was a thiness

and one an American missionary Mr. Hammond, who was travelling

in the front corner of the second coach, and it was necessary

te out spex the side of the coach to extrioste his bedy.

At the time of our visit a diversion had been made

reund the wrecked osaches and through traffic had been resumed.
