I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your Bo. 188/1914 of January 14, 1918, in which it is stated that the Hongkong government is not prepared to permit the German Consular records and furniturs to be forwarded to shanghai. The writer desires therefore to be informed whether paragraph (b) of your Jo, 188/1914 of June 8, 1916, is in any way modified by your communication of June 14, 1916. According to paragraph (b) it is my understanding that the German Consular archives and furniture can be stored in the Kowloon Godowns, or in any other place deemed suitable by this offics, and that the consular spala remain intact. It is presumed, of course, that the Hong Kong government admits of the principle of the inviolažility

of such archives and records.
