Mr. Hazeland's service, which is recorded in the Civil Service List, has been continuous since the date mentioned and in view of Sir William Des Voeux's Despatch No. 242 of the 20th. of August, 1888, it appears to have been the intention of this Govern- -ment that in such a case as this the service as clerk to a Judge should count for pension.

With your approval I therefore propose to inform Mr. Hazeland that the whole of his service is pansionable.
