5. Trigonometrical Survey. This work has been extended east- wards from Stanley to Wong Ma Kok, Loo Chau Island. D'Aguilar, Waglan, Tung Loong Island, High Junk Peak, and Hai Wan, 5 new stations have been erected and 6 Military Bench Marks utilized; altogether 14 stations were erected. The work was extended by series of interlacing polygons and closed with an angular error of 3" on to the original work with excellent results, good weather being experienced the whole time and the area enclosed being about 32 square miles.

6. Topographical and Cadastral Surveys. About 123 miles of traverses have been run during the year and traverse stations permanently marked on the ground. The same trouble occurred as formerly with regard to stations either being lost or removed, necessitating extra work. Steps are now being taken to eliminate this mischief by a system of more permanent marks at intervals in the more important traverses.

The Ordnance Survey of the Colony has been steadily pushed forward, 55 acres in Central District, 17 acres in Western District and 2 acres in Eastern District being completed and plotted.

An area of about 55 acres was surveyed and plotted in the Peak District to a scale of 50=1", which completes the survey. Steps are now being taken to reduce this to 200'1" and the new nap should be ready for printing in about six or eight months,

Surveys of Shaukiwan District, containing about 42 acres, and Aberdeen Village, containing about 27 acres, were completed.

The cost for this item is not available, this being a Departmental General

Account.
