REC Res !.

GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

HONGKONG.

31st May, 1916.

358

Sir,

A

Referring to your despatch No. 10 of the 12th

Jamiary, I have the honour to state that arrangements have now

been made for the stamping and sealing of ships' papers in the

marmer required by the Admiralty, in respect of all vessels

carrying cargo via the Suez route.

2.

I attach a copy of the form of certificate which will be issued by the Superintendent, Imports and Exports, and

I also enclose a copy of a notification which has been publish-

-ed in the gazette.

3.

It was not realised, at the date of my letter

to the Rear-Admiral of the 14th October, that the Naval

Commander-in-Chief, East Indies Station, attached any great

Importance to the new method which, to use his own words, he suggested for consideration. A considerable temporary increase

in the staff at the Imports and Exports Office has made the adoption of the new system possible.

I have the honour to be.

Sir,

Your most obedient, humble servant,

Bonny

Governor,&c..

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

ANDREW BONAR LAW, K.P.,
