House keeper's old and new lots, to be put up to public suction.

to pay a very high price for it.
8. The principal view from the Boarding House keeper's
premises is to the north and from the plans submitted by
Mezara, Denison, Ram & Gibbs, on behalf of the Vontractor,

plans referred to showed that the building was to be partially
4-storeys in height and, in this oses also, the heights shown
by the Architects, notwithstanding their former protest against
the excessive requirements of the Ordinance, were 14'8' for
the principal floor and 12'0* for one of the upper floors.
9. The grown Solicitor, whom I consulted in the matter,
advised me that, se the proposed building was so arranged
as not to front upon a street, the restriction as to height
imposed by the Buildings Ordinance did not apply. In order 3
however, to discouraga any further endeavour to obstruct the
view from the Boarding House keeper's premises, I required
the Architects slightly to reduce the height of one of the
storeys shown to be in excess of the requirements of the
Ordinance and this was ultimately arranged through the medium
of Messrs, DeBoon, Looker, Deacon, Solicitors, who had taken
the matter up on behalf of the Chinese Contractor and who
were evidently impressed with the reasonableness of my
requirements.
10. I am not aware of any further cass of dissatisfaction
being expressed until the receipt of the Architects' letter
of January 1915. As I have pointed out in my previous minutes,
during my absence from the Colony, sons Special Conditione
were attached to the sale of certain lots in regard to which
such Special Conditions were, in my opinion, uncalled-for.
