Gentlemen,

( 14 ) 322

OOPT

Colonial Becretary's Office,

Hong Kong, 5th: April, 1916.

I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of your letter dated March relative to the correspondence regarding the conditions of Sale of Crew Land, in particular connection with the sale of I. I. Xe.2070.

This lot was sold in April, 1914, whereas the Architects' representations were not put forward until January, 1915; and so there was no question in this particular case of inserting the special condition that "the design of the exterior elevations of any building to be erected on the let is to be subject to the approval of the Director of Public Torka".

There was the conditio as to the special approval of the Directer,at which was inserted because it was thought probable that any buildings erected on the let would fase in a north-easterly directåen, and that consequently servants' quarters or other outbuildings at the rear, if of any considerable height, would prove unsightly by TORSON Of their prezimity to Kennedy Road.

It appears from your plans that the buildings are designed in this manner, and that you propose to erect a tall, narrow block of outbuildings which will undoubtedly prove an eyesore from Kennedy Read.
