delenial Secretary's Offies,

Hong Kong, Ast: May 1915.

I am directed to saknowledge the receipt of

the Architects' letter of the 30th: April relative to the

conditions governing the leasing of Grom landa.

2.

I am to

omplained in the eighth paragraph of my

letter of the 2ând: April it is hardly possible to frame a detailed condition as to the type of house to be erected on a lot, which will satisfy the various requirements of

different persons who may wish to purchase. enquire whether the architects are prepared to agree to a condition that "the design of the exterior elevations of

any building to be erested on the lot is to be subject to

approval of the Biroster of Public Works".

If the architects do not consider this con-

dition to be satisfactory I am to request that they will

suggest, for the consideration of the Government, the form of a condition which will give to the Goverment a deciding

vôiso in the matter of the character of buildings which are

to be erected in a particular locality.

I am, Gentleme

Tours obedient servant,
