helosure....

Sir,

30364

Reet 27 JUNTO

GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

HONGKONG.

16th May,

1916.

459528/11

With reference to Mr. Harcourt's despatch No.

328 of 21st of December, 1914, and to previous correspondence, I have the honour to inform you that an application has been

received from the Hongkong Electric Co. for an additional

area of foreshore and seabed to the eastward of Marine Lot

321 which the Company bought at public auction in August, 1914,

and have since reclaimed from the sea. I enclose a plan on

which Marine Lot 321 is shown coloured grey and the additional

area now applied for, which contains about 50,000 square feet, is shown coloured red. The Company's original application included the area now applied for, but, as the red area extends

in front of War Department land and as objections were raised

to its disposal on the grounds that the Naval Authorities con-

templated the erection of tanks to contain oil fuel on a

portion of the War Department land, it was decided to exclude it from the sale,

2.

I have been in correspondence with the Rear-

Admiral in charge of the Station on the subject and an now informed that the Admiralty have withdrawn their objections,

provided a route for a pipe-line, extending to the new sea- front, is rendered available, for which purpose I propose to

require the Electric Company, in reclaiming the red area, to

include

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

ANDREW BONAR LAW, M.P.,
