I
I was born in Galicia, Austria. My birth place is Old Nix- bork. I am 32 years of age. I have been in China 12 years, have been in Tientsin for the last three years. I kept a brothel there until about one year ago when I sold it and went to live with A. Marcuson, who was the proprietor of a furniture shop. About three months ago he sold the shop and left for Manila, I lived with him in Shanghai in the Kalee Hotel, Shanghai. Then he left Shanghai for Manila I went to live at No. 11 Seaward Road, a board- ing-house kept by Lichinsky. I stayed there a month. Then I had a telegram from Manila from Mra. Savarkoff asking me to come to Manila. She keeps a bar there and wanted to sell me a half share in it. I had no papers, but a girl named Lily Ohrenstein who lived in my house in Tientsin, had left her passport behind and I had this passport with me. I sent Mr. Lichinsky with it to buy me a passage ticket to Amoy. I paid $40, for the ticket. I went with Lichinsky to the shipping office (I think it was Messrs. Jardine Matheson & Co.) and I asked when a ship left Amoy for Manila. I spent 6 on a telegram to Amoy and back. The reply was Saturday afternoon. It was then Wednesday.
I have done nothing wrong. All the English and Russian Police in Tientsin know me and they know I am a quiet woman.
I only want to go to Manila on businessN.
Every body in Mr. Lichinsky's house knew I was going on to Manila because they all saw my telegram.
I knew I had to be photographed to get to Manila through Hongkong
Bo I went to Amoy because in Amoy a photograph is not necessary.
