gir,

Received 38th. January, 1916.

I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of

your letter on the subject of the statement of the woman Yip Fung of Sha U Chung, Hirs Bay Chinese territory that her son when returning to Hongkong by the Sun On Passenger launch was arrested by the gunboat Kwong Lee which was searching the launch off Sha U Chung

The gunboat has not yet returned to Canton and the man arrested has not been sent here and no report has been received. I am therefore unable to say whether he was arrested in British

waters as I do not know the History of the case.

I have however given instructions for an immediate

investigation.
