Mr. August Bach, Peking,

Peking Home.

Dear Mr. Bach,

Yours of August 8 has been duly received and

contents noted.

Meanwhile war has broken out and the cir-

cumstances bere are greatly changed.

I am afraid that you by your outspoken German

sentiments will meet heeps of dificulties as leader of a mission-

ary home which largely depends on the support of English and

American Missions.

I am afraid too that no money will be forth-

coming here for your work, and I am asked by the Committee to notify you that further help for the Peking home had to be elimin- ated. I am sorry that on this account I cannot forward your

checks as usual.

Yours sincerely,

(SD.)

Polhill.
