In reply to Your Excellency's letter No. 504
of the 18th, ultimo, I have the honour to inform you that the
Hongkong Government is prepared to pay the rewards referred to in the last paragraph of Captain Seigne's letter to Your Excellency
of the lst, ultimo, viz., not less than 82 per modern fire-arm
seized on information of Captain Seigne's informers at Shanghai or
elsewhere in China or in Hongkong and destined for India in the opinion of Captain Seigne if seizure is made at Shanghai or of His Britannic Majesty's representative at other Port of seizure in China or of the Captain Superintendent of Police in Hongkong if
seizure is effected in this Colony.

I have sent a copy of this letter to the Rear- -Admiral at Hongkong and to His Britannic Majesty's Consul-General
at Shanghai.
