REG 17 APE 16

GOVERNMENT HOUSE.

HONGKONG. 4th. March, 1916.

I have the honour to report that I have recent-

-ly sanctioned an extension without suction of an Inland Lot in the following circumstances.

2.

On the 22nd. June, 1914, a piece of land 19,200

square feet in area, as shown in red on the attached plan, was put up to auction at an upset price of £960 and was purchased by Mr. Gibson, Colonial Veterinary Surgeon, with the intention of erecting a house for his om occupation. In accordance with the conditions of sale the purchaser paid the cost of the removal by the Tung Wah Hospital of certain Chinese graves which were on the land.

3.

When the condition as to the purchaser bearing the cost of removal of the graves was made it was thought that there were only about 220 graves and the cost of removal was estimated at 8242. It transpired subsequently, however, that the number of graves was 415 and the cost of removing them was 8729. As the Government would in any case have had to remove these graves at some future date, I have granted Mr. Gibson an extension of his land amounting to 7,280 square feet shom blue on the plon, with- -out premium, subject to his paying the cost of removing any graves

found in the extension.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient,"

humble servant,
