In reply to your Despatch No. 20 of the 23d. January last, I have the honour to refer you to my Despatch No. 46 of the 27th. idem and to inform you that I am unable to throw any further light on the death of Mr. McMillan except that the financial troubles alluded to were probably due to foolish lending of his credit on the strength of the proceeds of the sale of a small pro- -perty the deceased had inherited, to others who failed to meet
their liabilities.
