GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

HONGKONG. 29th. February, 1916.

sir, la

58983,

Referring to your Confidential Despatch of the

28th. December, I have the honour to state that the reward payable

upon the 707 lbs of opium seized on board the S. S. “Mishima Maru".

amounts to £170,

2.

The inform tion which led to the seizure wa8

sent by His Majesty's Consul-General at Shanghai in a telegram

dated the 30th. November, and the arrests being made on the 2nd.

December prior to the receipt of your telegram of that date; and

the Commissioner of Customs at Shanghai has requested that the

reward may be sent to Mr. Paul H. King, Non-resident Secretary at

the London Office of the Inspectorate, 26, Old Queen Street,

Testminster, for issue to the informant.

It is probable that the man who gave the in- -formation to the Chinese Customs is identical with the person signing himself J. K. M.; but, if this should prove not to be the case, it would seem equitable that the reward should be divided. I shall accordingly be glad if you will be so good as to instruct the Crow Agents to pay the sum of £170 to the one informer or to

divide it between the two informers, as the case may be.

I have the honour to be, Sir,

Your most obedient, humble servant,

Ros
