sir,
I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 4th. January and to say that liis Broellency the Governer appreciates the public spirit and putriotic feelings which appear to underlie it. Any criticisma and suggestions which are inspired by such motives will always be welcomed by His Excel - -lendy even though he may, after consideration, find himself in disagrement with them. Indeed in the present onse it is a matter of regret to the Government that the Committee of the Chamber did not descend to greater particularity in some of their criti- -cime and to granter praatial detail in some of their suggest-' -ions. The Government have a mys endeavoured to meet any definits sugestions of the chamber or of indi vi duni menbers of it. For inst-nce, I would remind you that when the Piece Goods Commit asked that the market should not be pressed instructions were issued as suggested to the liquidators, and thạt when the Government wore asked to fix a date by which sold goods should be cleared they appointed a time limit asordin,ly.
2.
The subject of your letter is the alleged injurious effect on lo cal interests, and on the claims of oroditeș -ora, omsed by way in which the liquidations are being; con- -ducted.
The alleged injury to the commercial interc
and present trade of the Oblony is said to be onwood chiefly bị
The jeer utary,
tabur
don,konį; General Chamber of Commerce.
