Referring to your letter No. 89 of the 9th. August relative to the execution of Chun Min-chan, I have the honour to state that it is understood that the man Tong Kwok-wai is now in the custody of the Canton Police,

2. In these circumstances the Chinese Authorities will be in a position to acquaint themselves of all the details of the decoying of Cheng Min-chau to Conten; and I shall be glad if you will be so good as to press them to pay a sum of £1,000 to Lau Pat, widow of the deceased, as some compensation for the loss of her husband.
