Sir,
Despatch of the Acting Civil Governor Lung of Centon to the Acting British Consul-General Shr. Wilton in charge of Portuguese Interests.
I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of Your Excellency's despatch of the 1st. of December in which you said that you have received a despatch of His Excellency the Governor of Macao saying that in my former despatch respecting the landing of Chinese troops in the island of Wong Cam, I the Civil Governor, have said nothing relating to the facts of the Chinese forces having passed through the inner harbour of Macno without permission of the Government of that Colony, and of their having disregarded the instructions given to them by the water police, and requested me to forbid my subordinates from perpetrating similar acts again. I have noted its contents. I find that so long as the question af the Macao boundary delimitation is not yet settled, I really cannot recognise that the Macao Government has any maritime jurisdiction in Macao on which I have before discussed. As to your saying that the Chinese forces have passed through the harbour of Macao for which I should ask the permission of* its Government etc., I think it was inconvenient to do so.
I have the honour to reply and hope that Your Excellency will please transmit the same to His Excellency the Governor of Macao and oblige.
I wish your Excellency may prosperities.
