Sir,
I have the honour to invite your attention to
the desirability of making provision for the regular
payment, during the War, of family remittances of officers
in the service of the Government, in the event of maile
being delayed or interrupted. Any temporary breakdown
in the present system is likely to cause real hardship
to many wives and other relatives of officers who are
entirely dependent upon the remittances made to the...,
If it is desired that w should commence direct payment
in this country as soon as such breakdown occurs, we would
suggest that we should be supplied at once with a list
giving: -
(1)
The names nd appointments of all officials
remitting,
(2) The names and addresses of the persons to whom the remittances are payable, and
(3)
The amount of the remittances;
and that, when it appears to be desirable, a telegram should be sent to us instructing us to pay such
remittances in accordance with the list supplied, for a
particular month or generally.
2. Any alterations to be made in the list, information of which has not previously reached us by
letter, should be mentioned in the telegram, which should also state the month in respect of which the first payment
is to be made. For the sake of convenience payments will
be made by us on or soon after the 7th day of the month
