The Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce,
Dear Sir,
Hongkong.
A very good friend of ours at the Board of Trade
has made a suggestion to me which, believing as I do, that
your remarks about this Company to which we referred in our
letter of the 6th inst. are not really due to malice, I have
pleasure in acting upon. It is to explain to you that thre
is no relationship whatever between our Mr.SANDERS, the
founder of this business and Chairman of the Company,
Mr. SANDER of Sander Wieler & Co.
and
Further, Mr. Rehders, who was associated with Mr.
Banders in the early date of this enterprise for about
18 months or less, left him to return to Hongkong and has had
no further connection of any sort or kind with this business
for the last 22 years or more, but in view of the importance
which attaches in England and elsewhere, to continuity of
name in a business, the style of the firm was not altered,
when he absolutely withdrew from it and severed his connection
with it, and, although the question has presented itself to us
since the outbreak of war, we have in common with many other
firms, who unfortunately find themselves saddled with a German
name, decided that it is inexpedient to make a change in the
