That

as to myself, I think I cannot do better than hand you, for your records, copy of a letter which I wrote a few weeks ago to the Secretary of the China Association who, in his frank apology,

stated that the "firm's name" was what had guided him,

letter of mine embodied copies of correspondence with the

Secretary of the "Baltic", who happened to be under the same misapprehension and, as my reply to his letter contains full particulars as to my parentage &c.&c., I have had that corres-

pondence copied out also, and attach a copy of the Reprints

referred to therein.

I should add that I have no son, but have encouraged

my daughter to take up nursing the wounded, and she is doing ac,

for some months, in a hospital for wounded soldiers at Cromer.
