Mr. Carroll has called on me and left
copies of the two agreements, and also statutory
required form declaration in the Rise-Court. I think we can now
confirm the reappointment of Cheetham. See the Governor's
telegram on 27685.

With regard to this letter you will see
that the Company have made an agreement with Messrs.
Reiss Brothers and Company to take over the Agency at
Hong Kong and also to assist and supervise the work
I do not know anything of Reiss
Brothers but Mr. Carroll assures me that they are a
very wealthy and well known firm and you will see
that according to this letter the Governor's sanction
to the appointment has been already given.
I am to call attention to the words in the
middle of page three, by the belief that in doing so
