Confirming our letter of yesterday, we beg to inform you
that we have received the following telegram this morning from the
Texas Company, New York:
"Shewan Tomes cable quote: Government refuse to allow
Cheetham to act as agent Sanders, if you telegraph to
us authority to take over new consignment we can make
Batisfactory financial arrangements unquote please
take this question up with your Home Government, so
(that) ateamer Panama will be handled as outlined."
which certainly confirms our impression that the trouble in regard
to our agent, Mr.Humphrey Cheetham, is probably due to the liquida-
tors of Messrs. Reuter Brockelmann & Co.
We are to-day addressing His Excellency the Governor of
Hongkong in the following terms, in reply to his message of
yesterday:
