Mr.Young has had legal opinion on the question of the new
consignment and from what he tells me he can contest and claim the
Rc shipment with us, unless, as I have already hinted, that you
have obtained special power to entirely eliminate and make null and
void R.B.& Co. from the old agreement, I have seen a copy of the
agreement but cannot of course express here any opinion one way or
another on the matter, but as this appears to be rather serious, I
also have seen the Hongkong Bank solicitors and have asked them to
give me their opinion on this old agreement. At the time of
writing I am still without their reply."
Hongkong, 8th May, 1915.
"In regard to the old agreement, I have had the opinion of
the Bank solicitors (Mr.Hooper of Messrs. Johnson Stokes a Laster)
which is to the effect that the old agreement cannot interfere with
the present one and the new shipment. This now clears up this
particular matter with which I was troubled."
1.B. There is not a word, nor any suggestion whatever in the whole letters by which Mr. Cheetham connects himself or his new duties with Messrs.Reuter, Brockelman & Co.
On the contrary, he writes in reference to this firm, (in the first of the above letters):
"Please send immediately proofe from Mr. Fuhrmann
(Reuter Brockelman & Co) that R.B. Co. have relinquished all
their rights to this agency under the old agreement, and to the
