His Excellency the Governor of Hongkong,

Your Excellency,

Hongkong.

509

26th Feb. 1915.

re Texas 011 businese.

We beg to confirm our respects dated the 2nd and 9th inst.

in regard to the above matter; and now enclose the usual duplicate

of the last named letter.

We were very glad to receive Your Excellency's telegram

dated the 19th inst. reading:

"Your telegram February eighth: Cannot accept

Schluter. Will accept Cheetham.

for which telegram we are much obliged. In reply we cabled;

"Obliged to-day's cable, accepting Cheethan.

Are now appointing him. Have telegraphed Texas (to) ship (a) new cargo (of) hundredsixtythousand cases

We have since received Mr.Humphrey Cheetham's reply, ac = cepting the appointment and intimating that he would proceed to Hongkong (from Shanghai) as desired by us, namely in about four

weeks' time.

Just previous to Your Excellency's telegram, we received a cable from the Texas Company, asking us whether we now agreed to receive a cargo for Hongkong of about 160,000 cases of Oil and, had Your Excellency not been good enough to cable us, we should not have been able to agree to the shipment of this Oil, and would have lost this valuable agency.
