interned at Hong Kong, and the Government have appointed Messrs Lowe, Bingham & Matthews, Accountants & Auditors of

Hong Kong, Liquidators.

In August and September last most of the Creditors received letters from Messrs Gaupp & CO, Hong Kong, giving

copies of correspondence which had passed with the local Government, confirming that they had a special license from the Hong Kong Government to conduct their business and that all monies etc were to be paid into the Hong Kong & Shanghai Bank for the benefit of Creditors, and that the Government had appointed

Accountants to see that this was carried out.

The British Creditors therefore had no cause for

alarm, and on or about the commencement of January last they received a letter from Messrs Lowe, Bingham & Matthews,

the Accountante, dated Hong Kong November 28th 1914, stating that they had been appointed Liquidatore and anticipated they would be successful in disposing of the business, in which case all

Creditors would be paid in full.

Not until the end of January 1915, and then only

in response to cables exchanged by Messrs Mappin & Webb, was any intimation conveyed the Creditors as to the unsatisfac tery

neture of the position.
