We have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your lottor of
the 23rd inst. which, howovor, does not doal with thu point at issɖo,
Messrs. Tane & Co. of Now York havo bought fron an orican
Citizon of over 25 years standing a quantity of Cassia, valuod at
$3800, and paid for it. The goods have boon stopped and as you
now informed us rọturnod from Hong Kong to Canton.
What we desire
to know is whether the return of the Spice to Canton implies the
refusal of our Government to allow shipment, or if not, what steps may
properly be taken by us to insure shipment to Now York.
