With reference to your letter of 6th instant and
mine in reply of 8th idem., I bag to inform you that I have
now received a telegram from the Chairman of the Committee
of this Conference at Hong Kong indicating that in view of
Messrs W. A.Hannibal & Co. having been recognised by the Govern-
ment of the Colony as a British Firm he desires that I will
inform him by telegraph whether the various Conference Linea
are to persist in their refusal to carry cargo tendered by
that firm,
Before therefore replying to his enquiry I am to
ask that you will please inform me whether it is now agreed
that we shall be in order in continuing to follow the in-
structions contained in the letter from the Foreign Office
to Mr. Richard D. Holt dated 7th ultimo.
