sir.
In reply to your letter of the 10th instant
251/1915) with regard to an application for permission
to tranship in Hong Kong, consignments of Tungsten ore
destined for the United States of America, I am directed by
the Minister of Munitions to state that he is informed that
the applicants, Messrs. Berti & Co., of Bangkok, owe delivery
of some 100 or more tons of Tungsten Ore to firms in this
country.
In view of this, I am to suggest that permission
to make the transhipment in question should not be granted,
and to enquire whether Mr. Boner Law will consider the possibility of bringing pressure to bear on Messrs. Berfi with a view to inducing them to ship ore to this country
in preference to America.
I have the honour to be, Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
The Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office, S.W.
