With reference to your letter of the 29th of May last, No 22653/15, transmitting a copy of a despatch from the Governor of Hong Kong on the subject of the negotiations between the Chinese and the Hong Kong Post Offices consequent upon the adherence of China to the Postal Union, I am directed by the Postmaster General to acquaint you, for the information of the Secretary of State, that he concurs generally in the attitude taken up by the Hong Kong Post Office towards the proposal to establish a Chinese Postal Agency at Hong Kong.
The Postmaster General is in communication with the Postmaster General of Hong Kong concerning the direct delivery of British Mails to Chinese Contract Packets in China in so far as the question affects the British Post Office Agencies in China.
